Sign our Petition to the Wisconsin DNR

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is collecting public comments for its Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Enbridge’s proposed relocation of the Line 5 pipeline in Ashland, Bayfield and Iron counties. Approximately 1,000 jobs are on the line, many going to UA members. The DNR will consider all public comments when preparing the Final Environmental Impact Statement.

Sign our petition below that we will submit to the Wisconsin DNR before the comment period ends -- the deadline has been extended to Friday, March 18!

Dear Secretary:

I stand with Pipeliners Local 798 in support of the proposed relocation of Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline in Wisconsin’s Ashland, Bayfield and Iron counties. This is a critical investment in the region’s energy and economic future that will support good jobs for the regional workforce, including many Local 798 members.

Line 5 has operated in Wisconsin for nearly 70 years, providing a link to essential energy supplies for northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Throughout these years, Enbridge has worked closely with landowners, tribal leaders and safety experts to ensure the safest and most efficient pipeline operation.

This proposed relocation of the pipeline in the state demonstrates Enbridge’s continued commitment to gathering community input to develop the most responsible path, including conducting surveys along a 40-mile corridor in Ashland and Iron counties and engaging impacted landowners.

I support the proposed relocation of Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline for the following reasons:

  • The project is necessary to ensure continued uninterrupted transportation service relied upon by homes and businesses across the Great Lakes region;
  • All products that enter the pipeline are inspected and treated to prevent corrosion, and the system is operated at a low pressure to minimize stress on the pipe – all in an effort to protect the pipeline and the surrounding environment;
  • The Line 5 segment relocation project would create approximately 1,000 jobs for local skilled craftsmen, many of whom are United Association members.

Enbridge has demonstrated a clear plan to finish construction of this important relocation project in order to continue the safe and efficient energy delivery to homes and businesses across the region. This is why I urge the DNR to issue a favorable final Environmental Impact Statement and clear the path to complete the permitting process without delay.

Signed,
