RE: Docket No. CP22-468-000 Trailblazer Conversion Project
Dear Chairman Phillips and Commissioners Danly, Clements, and Christie:
We are writing in support of the Trailblazer Conversion Project and the Environmental Assessment (EA) report that was issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on March 31, 2023.
The EA assesses the potential environmental effects of the project in accordance with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). FERC staff concluded that, with appropriate mitigation measures, the Trailblazer Conversion Project would have no significant impact on the quality of the environment.
Based upon staff’s independent analysis, we encourage the issuance of the regulatory approvals necessary for Trailblazer Pipeline Company, LLC and Rockies Express Pipeline, LLC to undertake the Trailblazer Conversion Project, repurposing existing natural gas infrastructure for the transportation of carbon dioxide (CO2).
The conversion from natural gas to gaseous CO2, with no service disruption for existing natural gas customers, represents a critical step that will enable industrial operations to better manage their carbon emissions and increase the value of the goods produced.
This project will also support good jobs for local craftsmen, many of whom are Pipeliners Local 798 members. These men and women are among the most highly trained and skilled industry workers who understand the importance of quality craftsmanship when it comes to energy infrastructure.
As our country endeavors to decarbonize our energy production and manufacturing sectors, this project is an important step toward robust carbon management systems that will spur economic growth, as well as protect our environment.
We ask that you make this application a priority and thank you for your consideration.
Signed,
